Flavoglaucin, its derivatives, and pyranonigrins, which are antioxidants produced by the molds used in fermented foods, were examined for their inhibition of tumor promotion by the Epstein-Barr virus early antigen activation test. Flavoglaucin and its derivatives exhibited high activity. Flavoglaucin and such a derivative as isodihydroauroglaucin inhibited mouse skin tumor promotion in a two-stage carcinogenesis test and appear to be antitumor promoters.  相似文献

Rice necrosis mosaic virus (RNMV), upon inoculation, induced higher growth and yield in Ludwigia perennis and Corchorus olitorius. Crops of commercial importance, including arhar, rice bean, cotton and tomato, were tested for growth promotion and higher productivity upon RNMV inoculation. Plant growth characteristics and biochemical components were measured from control, inoculated and energised plants. To understand the molecular basis behind such phenomenon, tomato plants were selected for subtractive hybridisation and reverse northern analysis due to its known gene sequences. Significant changes in biological properties and biochemical components in all the inoculated test plants over control were observed along with better seed quality. Over-expression of genes falling in different functional categories like photosynthesis, plant growth and development, and membrane transport explained the virus-induced growth promotion phenomenon as well as the temporary passage of this property through seeds of inoculated plants.  相似文献

The complex floral structure in the southern African genusConophytum (Mesembryanthemaceae; 77 spp.) is described in detail and assigned to three basic floral types, two of which can be divided into two subtypes.   • The tropical Melastomataceae are characterized by poricidal anthers which constitute a floral filter selecting for buzz‐pollinating bees. Stamens are often dimorphic, sometimes with discernible feeding and pollinating functions. Rhynchanthera grandiflora produces nectarless flowers with four short stamens and one long stamen; all anthers feature a narrow elongation with an upwards facing pore.
  • We tested pollen transfer by diverse foraging bees and viability of pollen from both stamen types. The impact of anther morphology on pollen release direction and scattering angle was studied to determine the plant's reproductive strategy.
  • Medium‐sized to large bees sonicated flowers in a specific position, and the probability of pollen transfer correlated with bee size even among these legitimate visitors. Small bees acted as pollen thieves or robbers. Anther rostrum and pore morphology serve to direct and focus the pollen jet released by floral sonication towards the pollinator's body. Resulting from the ventral and dorsal positioning of the short and long stamens, respectively, the pollinator's body was widely covered with pollen. This improves the plant's chances of outcrossing, irrespective of which bee body part contacts the stigma. Consequently, R. grandiflora is also able to employ bee species of various sizes as pollen vectors.
  • The strategy of spreading pollen all over the pollinator's body is rather cost‐intensive but counterbalanced by ensuring that most of the released pollen is in fact transferred to the bee. Thus, flowers of R. grandiflora illustrate how specialized morphology may serve to improve pollination by a functional group of pollinators.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a group of genetically and clinically heterogeneous disorders with motile cilia dysfunction. It is clinically characterized by oto-sino-pulmonary diseases and subfertility, and half of the patients have situs inversus (Kartagener syndrome). To identify the genetic cause in a Han-Chinese pedigree, whole-exome sequencing was conducted in the 37-year-old proband, and then, Sanger sequencing was performed on available family members. Minigene splicing assay was applied to verify the impact of the splice-site variant. Compound heterozygous variants including a splice-site variant (c.1974-1G>C, rs1359107415) and a missense variant (c.7787G>A, p.(Arg2596Gln), rs780492669), in the dynein axonemal heavy chain 11 gene (DNAH11) were identified and confirmed as the disease-associated variants of this lineage. The minigene expression in vitro revealed that the c.1974-1G>C variant could cause skipping over exon 12, predicted to result in a truncated protein. This discovery may enlarge the DNAH11 variant spectrum of PCD, promote accurate genetic counselling and contribute to PCD diagnosis.  相似文献

A mixture of purified polyphenol oxidases (PPO), or acetone powders prepared from fruits and vegetables, and polyphenolic compounds (PPs) totally eliminated a methylmercaptan odor. 2-Methyl-thiochlorogenic acid was isolated from the reaction mixture of methylmercaptan and chlorogenic acid with burdock acetone powder. Further, the formation of 5-methylthiochlorogenic acid and 2,5-bis(methylthio)-chlorogenic acid was suggested. These facts demonstrate that the o-quinone compounds formed from o-diphenols by PPO rapidly reacted with methylmercaptan. The oxidation reaction of PPs by using acetone powder containing PPO or peroxidase is considered to be more effective for removing bad smells from our mouths and from the environment.  相似文献

The racemate and the enantiomers of cytosporone E [3-heptyl-4,5,6-trihydroxyphthalide (1)], a metabolite of the endophytic fungus, CR200 (Cytospora sp.), were synthesized. The key steps were (i) Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation of an alkene (8) and (ii) HPLC separation of the enantiomers of tert-butyldimethylsilyl ether (12) on a chiral stationary phase. The racemate and enantiomers of cytosporone E showed only weak antimicrobial activity with no difference among them.  相似文献

The ATP level was exclusively increased among the nucleotides in Escherichia coli under osmotic stress, concomitant with a decrease of guanosine phosphates levels. The profile of ATP formation was different from that resulting from chemicals. E. coli contains a specific system to enhance the ATP level and it might be possible that the source of the increased ATP is guanosine phosphates.  相似文献

Selectively apoptosis-targeting compounds in gastrointestinal cancers attract broad interest. Here, we investigated a synthetic sulfonamide, 4-bromo-N-(5-ethyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indol-8-yl)benzenesulfonamide (L34). It showed high activity against gastric cancer cells SGC-7901, causing apoptosis, which was associated with downregulation of caspase-3 and XIAP, upegulation of cleaved caspase-3, and cleavage of PARP. Hence, L34 might be a potent chemotherapeutic agent against human gastric cancer.  相似文献

The present study optimized the extraction characterization and antioxidant activities of water-soluble compound polysaccharides (CPs) from hawthorn, lotus leaf, Fagopyrum tataricum, semen cassiae, Lycium barbarum, and Poria cocos Chinese herbal medicines that have mass ratios of 4 : 2 : 2 : 1.5 : 1 : 1. The CPs yield equation was predicted using quantitative theory, to which a maximum CPs yield of 7.18±0.24 % under the following optimal extraction conditions: a water-to-raw material ratio of 30 mL/g, an extraction temperature of 65 °C, an extraction time of 45 min, and extraction mode ultrasonic-assistant extraction. CPs were consisted of Ara, Gal, Glc, Xyl, Man, GalA and GlcA in a molar ratio of 3.1 : 2.6 : 50.6 : 1.7 : 20.4 : 17.2 : 4.2. The HPGPC profiles and FT-IR spectra implied that CPs were heterogeneous acidic polysaccharides and possessed the β-d -pyranose configuration. Congo red test, CD spectrum and SEM revealed that CPs with three helix conformation showed a flocculent, granulous or sheet-like appearance. Furthermore, the relationships between antioxidant activity and concentration of CPs displayed significant positive correlation, and the scavenging abilities for DPPH, hydroxyl radical, ABTS, superoxide-anion radical and reducing power of CPs were 93.56±2.51 %, 84.03±1.69 %, 83.29±1.93 %, 37.49±1.93 % and 0.467±0.006 at a concentration of 4.0 mg/mL. Therefore, CPs could be applied as a potential natural antioxidant in pharmaceutical or functional food fields.  相似文献
